Pendant Light A110 in Black/Black

Helsinki-based design company Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The name Artek is a synthesis of "art" and "technology." From the beginning, their goal was "to sell furniture and promote a modern culture of living." The Pendant Lamp A110 by Artek, also known as the Hand Grenade, was designed by architect and designer Alvar Aalto in 1952.

Aff. We are compensated by our partners

Due to its characteristic shape, the pendant light is nicknamed "Hand Grenade". The lamp consists of two steel cylinders, one inside the other one. Pendant Light A110 projects both direct and indirect light onto ceilings, and its perforated inner ring creates a corona effect around the pendant light while simultaneously reducing glare. The lamp looks good alone but also in a group above the dining table or kitchen.

Our impression

We decided to hang two Pendant Light A110 in Black/Black above our kitchen island. The construction of the lamp allows to radiate diffused light up- and downwards. The lamp’s all-black matte finish gives them a premium look and feel. It's super nice to have Finnish design hanging in our home.
